To all NYSEDC members: A proposal to defer 50 percent of business tax incentives for three years remains under active discussion by the Governor and legislative leaders in their efforts to close the current $9.5 billion state budget. If adopted, this action would amount to little more than the government borrowing from NY businesses to pay for excessive spending that lawmakers are unwilling to trim. It would also cripple economic development efforts for years as it would damage the state’s credibility as a trusted partner. I urge ALL NYSEDC members and businesses in your community that currently benefit from Empire Zone incentives, Investment Tax Credits, Brownfield Tax credits, Historic Tax Credit, CAPCO incentives, Power for Jobs, or any other business tax incentives, to contact by e-mail, fax, scanned letters, or phone calls, the legislators listed below, in addition to your local legislators. Legislators are trying to close down the budget in the next few days, so please act now. I am attaching a draft letter/memo from which you should not hesitate to cut and paste, but as always, you should add information related to local impact.
