As you know, for months Unshackle Upstate has been calling for a property tax cap similar to what was passed in Massachusetts in the 80's and just this month in New Jersey.  New York desperately needs a cap on school and property taxes that offers overrides for special circumstances and eliminates unfunded mandates.  We need a cap that will stop our bleeding and allow us to recover.

In the time that Unshackle Upstate has been promoting this issue, more than 45,000 emails have been sent supporting their call for the cap.  Well, now it appears as if the call has been heard.

Yesterday, Andrew Cuomo, a candidate for Governor, introduced his property tax cap website.  The site, http://www.capnypropertytaxes.com/ is a call to action for all New Yorkers to work with him to lower the burden we face as homeowners and businesses.  The plan is similar to what Unshackle Upstate proposed and one that people support.  In addition to the website, click here to watch a video.

It is time for all of us to take action.  We must continue to move this issue this year.  The Legislature is scheduled to return to Albany today.  Let's make sure they know we support this plan and that they should be addressing it now.

Please send this email alert to your friends, family colleagues . . . every New York resident you know.  Let's not waste our hard work.  To use a sports analogy, we've driven down the field and are close.  Let's give this one final push and score a victory for all of us.

Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions.

Regards,
